Guernsey Stamps

Exhibitor: Richard Ashton
My main collection of stamps 'off cover' exhibited here commences in the latter Queen Victoria period through to modern issues. The high face value stamps of Great Britain with Guernsey postmarks are from Queen Victoria to King George V with scarce King Edward VII £1 values and a King George V Postal Union Congress £1 which must be very scarce used in Guernsey. The wartime 'Arms' issue include some scarce perforation varieties and a complete set of 'imprint' blocks that has taken many years to put together. There is a pair of the Liberation Imprimaturs

Exhibitor: David Winnie
The Guernsey Sales Tax Law 1940, made during the German Occupation, imposed a tax at the rate of ½d per 6d on all sales of 6d or over.  Basic essential supplies were exempt.  Two series of stamps were issued but, in addition, Entertainment Tax stamps, first issued in 1919 could be used provisionally as Sales Tax stamps from 1940/41 until supplies ran out.  Examples of the usage of all three types of Sales Tax stamps are shown on invoices as statements.

This display includes examples of Blampied’s artwork, composite essays, photographic essays and proofs.
