IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MEMBERS’ WEEKEND IN GUERNSEY AND BEYOND
To all C.I.S.S. Members,
Following the recent government advice about the impact the
Covid-19 virus is having upon the United Kingdom and the notice issued by the
Association of British Philatelic Societies (ABPS) stating that all society
meetings should be postponed or cancelled until the 30th April, it
is with understandable regret that it has been agreed with the Chairman that
the forthcoming C.I.S.S. Members’
Weekend in Guernsey, that would have been held 24th – 26th
April, is cancelled forthwith. The committee will also look at what
future action will be required for the C.I.S.S. Annual General Meeting in July
and beyond, as the ABPS also recommends that all member societies postpone or
cancel all meetings until September 2020.
I have contacted the
Peninsula Hotel this morning regarding individual room bookings, and I have
been informed that members will still have to pay the one-night
non-refundable deposit. However, the hotel is waving its cancellation fees
for any other nights booked. The committee appreciates that this will have cost
implications on individuals and recommends that members make claims through
their travel insurance policy to see if they can reclaim the non-refundable
deposit.
IMPORTANT: Individuals will have to contact the Peninsula
Hotel (01481 248400) and ask for Becky in Reservations in order to cancel their
room booking. The C.I.S.S. cannot do this for you.
If travelling by Condor Ferries, please go to the
Coronovirus section and read Customers with bookings until 30th
April 2020 information which gives you three options of what to do with
your booking. If travelling by air, please visit your own airline’s website for
further details.
Gerald Marriner has informed me that the proposed room
auction that was to be held as part of the Guernsey Weekend will now be
combined with the postal auction. Closing date has yet to be determined but
will be towards the end of April, with the auction list being sent to all
members in due course.
Difficult times lay ahead for us all. Take care and stay
safe.
